Yamal LNG launched a tender for construction and operation of arctic-class LNG carriers

Moscow, 26 September 2012. OAO YAMAL LNG has announced a tender for construction and operation of ARC7 ice-class LNG carriers. Shipping industry leaders are involved in the tender.

Seven shipyards with experience in constructing both conventional and ice-class LNG vessels are invited to bid for the construction of LNG carriers based on the Yamal LNG technical specification.

Thirteen ship owners are invited to bid for the operation of the ARC7 LNG carriers that will transport LNG for 20 years.

Main terms of the time charter and shipbuilding contracts are expected to be finalized by the end of 2012. NOTE

ARC7 LNG carriers shall provide a year-round delivery of Yamal LNG produced liquefied natural gas to the market. The carriers are designed to operate at temperatures down to minus 50 degrees Celsius and capable of unattended voyage at more than 2.1 meter ice.

Yamal LNG project provides for construction of a 15 million tons per annum LNG plant on the resource base of the South-Tambeyskoe field which holds 879 billion cubic meters of proven and probable gas reserves under the PRMS standards as of December 31, 2011. The project also anticipates the construction of a new transport infrastructure, including a sea port and an airport facility, near the settlement of Sabetta located on the North-East section of the Yamal peninsula.

The project is implemented by Yamal LNG OAO, owned by NOVATEK OAO (80% share) and Total (20 % share).
